CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. — A Caldwell County EMS ambulance carrying a patient to the local hospital was involved in a wreck Monday evening.
The collision happened around 8:45 p.m. at the intersection of south Hickory Boulevard (U.S. Highway 321) and Pinewood Road in Granite Falls, county officials say.
Two EMS technicians were on-board the ambulance at the time of the collision, as well as the patient being transported, according to a news release. The crew involved in the crash continued tending to the patient throughout the incident as well as assisted in evaluating the other drivers involved despite the collision.
A total of three patients, including the two EMS personnel, were transported to local hospitals.
Injuries of the patients range from minor to moderate. Both EMS personnel have been treated and released. Officials say the driver of the passenger truck and transfer truck both refused treatment and transport at the scene.
The Granite Falls Police Department, with assistance from the NCSHP, is conducting an accident investigation regarding the incident.
