CONCORD, N.C. — On October 15th the Concord Fire Department says they will hold a live-fire training exercise on Poplar Tent Road, and as a result part of Eva Drive will be closed from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“Live-fire training is essential in the development and advancement of skills for firefighters,” stated Fire Chief Jake Williams. “Participating in realistic scenarios such as this helps to prepare our personnel for conditions they will combat in an actual incident,” Williams continued.
Concord Fire Department officials say drivers coming in and out of Edgewater Drive will be able to take Poplar Tent Road onto Eva Drive southbound in one lane, and drivers at Oak Haven, Wescott, Red Maple, and Troxler will be able to travel northbound on Eva Drive to Poplar Tent Road.
Anyone traveling on Poplar Tent Road on October 15th may see fire and black smoke, emergency vehicles. and other emergency agencies during the training exercise, and officials ask drivers to keep traffic flowing and to only call 9-1-1 if they are having a life-threatening emergency, according to a news release.
Concord Fire Department officials say, “While we understand that live burns present an exciting viewing opportunity for community members and members of the media, to aid in promoting the safety and welfare of our community, we are discouraging congregants. Public Information will submit and place photos on social media following the training.”
