Detectives Investigate The Death Of A Pedestrian After A Fatal Collision In East Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Detectives say the driver of a 2000 Mitsubishi Galant hit and killed a pedestrian crossing the road on October 6th around 8:30 p.m.

Investigators say the pedestrian, 79-year-old Ramo Begic, was taken to Atrium Health with life-threatening injuries and later died on October 14th.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, 24-year-old Amy Contreras, was heading south on Farm Pond Lane when she hit Begic, according to a news release.

Detectives say Contreras was charged for not having a license or insurance at the time of the accident.

The accident occurred late in the night along a dark roadway, and Begic was not in a designated crosswalk or near an intersection, according to a news release.

Investigators say impairment and speeding are not suspected to be a factor in the fatal collision, but test results are pending.
