βWe are thrilled to host this exciting and safe family-friendly event with Piedmont Natural Gas. We are looking forward to holding a CDC -compliant program for children to still enjoy Trick-or-Treating this year,β said CFD Sr Fire Educator Amy Rea.
Piedmont Natural Gas officials say they will also pass along safety information on natural gas to the kids as part of their “Smell gas? Get out fast!” campaign, that educates its communities on how to recognize the smell of natural gas.
A natural gas scratch-n-sniff card will be added to the candy drop packages so that kids can learn to recognize the smell, according to a news release.
βOur goals are to support the Charlotte Fire Department as they provide a safe alternative to trick-or-treating, and also to educate families about how to be safe around natural gas,β said Piedmont Natural Gas Senior Vice President Sasha Weintraub. βWith so many kids and parents working and learning from home during the pandemic, natural gas safety is now more important than ever. We are grateful to Charlotte Fire for helping us get this message out.β
