Charlotte To Light Up The City In Teal For Alzheimer’s Awareness
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The NASCAR Hall of Fame, Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts, and Romare Bearden Park will be lighting up teal on November 5th to raise awareness for Alzheimer’s, according to a news release.
Officials with the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America’s say Charlotte, and other buildings around the world, are participating in this annual “Light the World in Teal” program to shine a spotlight on the disease and show support for the millions affected by it.
βHaving these Charlotte landmarks βgo tealβ on the same day is a powerful and incredible way to raise awareness and show support for the millions of families who are affected by Alzheimerβs disease,β said Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr., AFAβs President & CEO. βAFA thanks each of them for helping to light the world in teal for Alzheimerβs awareness and literally shining a light on the issue of Alzheimerβs disease.β
The program is held every November as part of Alzheimer’s Awareness month, and Charlotte will be joined by more than 275 sites worldwide participating by wearing teal, posting on social media using #AFALightTheWorldInTeal, or by changing their facebook cover profile photo to a teal filter, according to a news release.
Officials say more than 5.8 million Americans, 180,000 North Carolinians, are living with Alzheimer’s disease currently, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say the number of people with the disease is expected to triple by 2060.
