Should Companies “Read The Room” As They Promote Product During Election Turmoil?
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Kylie Jenner is under siege online after promoting her Kylie Cosmetics makeup line in the middle of this tense presidential election. She posted a picture Wednesday saying the latest products from her Kendall Collection will be made available but fans were quick to criticize saying “Read the room, sis” and “Girl, not the time to promote your products.”
And the Gap is another company making headlines for not reading the room during the election. The company removed a photo of a half-blue, half-red sweatshirt form its Twitter account after the Wednesday post went viral and upset some users. The caption read: “The one thing we know, is that together, we can move forward.”
Chrissy Teigen chimed in saying “Yay, we can just walk sideways depending on the city we’re in.”
A Gap spokeswoman says, “The intention of our social media post…was to show the power of unity. It was just too soon for this message.”
