YORK COUNTY, S.C. — A Rock Hill man is facing attempted murder charges following an officer involved shooting in York County, according to a news release from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED).
Deputies with the York County Sheriff’s Office say they responded to a trespassing call on Saturday, November 7th. When they arrived on the scene, deputies say someone fired shots at the deputies, who then returned fire. Following the exchange of gunfire, the suspect barricaded himself in his home where a short standoff ensued, according to SLED.
The suspect, who has been identified as 37-year-old Prince Barber, was taken into custody a short time later, according to SLED. No injuries were reported. Barber has been charged with two counts of assault and attempted murder.
SLED says the incident in York County was the 44th officer involved shooting in South Carolina in 2020. It is the second involving the York County Sheriff’s Office. In 2019, there were 45 officer involved shootings in South Carolina; one involved the York County Sheriff’s Office.
