Hidden Gems Of CLT: Rosie’s Wine Garden
Watch a new episode of Hidden Gems of Charlotte with Alexandra Elich each Thursday on WCCB News Rising.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — What are you missing in your favorite neighborhood? WCCB Charlotte’s Alexandra Elich explores tucked away spots, historic businesses, and secret gardens in the middle of our bustling city.
On this week’s Hidden Gems of Charlotte, Alex visits Rosie’s Wine Garden.
The beautiful McGill Rose Garden is a nearly two acre garden tucked away on North Davidson Street in the NoDa Arts District. The owner of Rosie’s, Dan Fulco, says in the 1950’s the land was a coal and ice company owned by Henry and Helen McGill.
“We’ve done a little bit of research and found some property records that take back, I believe, to the really early 30s,” says Fulco.
Since then, the little building on the grounds and the neighborhood have gone through a series of transitions.
“It has been a coffee shop, it has been a garden shop, consignment art and prior to us Flower Shop,” according to Fulco.
It wasn’t until 2019 that Rosie’s Wine Bar was born.
“You can buy beer and wine inside, come outside, stroll the garden, have your glass of wine, see all of the different rose bushes,” says Fulco.
