Red Cross Helps Families Impacted By Flooding In The Greater Carolinas

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The American Red Cross of the Greater Carolinas supported three reception centers and worked with four Emergency Operation Centers after flooding across North and South Carolina today, according to a news release.

Red Cross officials say they began getting calls at 7 a.m. on November 12th asking for assistance after several homes flooded causing evacuations.

The Red Cross helped to staff and provide meals to three reception centers in Alexander, Mecklenburg, and Forsyth Counties, according to a news release.

Officials say Red Cross team members also worked either virtually, or in person, at four Emergency Operation Centers.

Officials with The Red Cross of the Greater Carolinas say they will continue helping the community throughout the night and into Friday, November 13th.

Red Cross tips for what to do after a flood:

  • Let friends and family know you’re safe. Register yourself as safe on the Safe and Well website.
  • If evacuated, return only when authorities say it is safe to do so.
  • Continue listening to local news or a NOAA Weather Radio for updated information and instructions.
  • Keep children and pets away from hazardous sites and floodwater.
