CMPD: Woman Fleeing Police Following Traffic Stop Dies After Crashing Into Semi Truck In West Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Investigators with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department say a woman who was fleeing from police following a traffic stop died after her vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer in west Charlotte.

The accident happened around midnight on November 15th on Wilkinson Boulevard and Old Dowd Road.

Detectives say the driver of the Land Rover was fleeing from a traffic stop in Gaston County.  The driver reportedly made her way into Mecklenburg County and was speeding as she drove eastbound onto Wilkinson Boulevard, according to a news release.  Detectives say she then collided with the tractor-trailer that was making a U-Turn.

Investigators say the woman died at the scene and the driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured.

Evidence suggests that the woman was not wearing her seatbelt, and police are waiting for test results to see if she was impaired at the time of the accident, according to a news release.
