TreesCharlotte To Celebrate Giving Tuesday By Planting Trees In North Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Officials with TreesCharlotte and partners will plant a mix of fruit and non-fruit trees to grow a canopy and provide food security at Bread of Life Deliverance Church in north Charlotte.

Volunteers with the church, the Mecklenburg County Health Department, N.C. Extension Service, and TreesCharlotte will plant on Tuesday, December 1st from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., according to a news release.

Event officials say they plan to plant 20 fruit trees including blueberries, figs, and peaches, and 30 non-fruit trees including arborvitae, red cedar, dogwood, and styrax.

Jen Rothacker, community engagement director for TreesCharlotte, says “Projects like these are critical to restore the canopy, which in Charlotte is disappearing at a rate of 3 football fields a day! TreesCharlote is aiming to raise at least $100,000 in December as part of its Fill the Field Campaign. For every $5,000 raised, we can restore the tree equivalent of a football field.”
