CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg detectives say 26-year-old Ronnell Laberth died after crashing his car in north Charlotte on November 28th.
Officers responded to the fatal collision around 1:30 a.m. to find a 2002 Acura RSX overturned in the roadway with Laberth still inside the vehicle, officials say.
Police say Laberth was heading northwest on West Rocky River Road when he sped into a curve, and traveled off the side of the roadway hitting a dirt retaining wall down an embankment. Detectives say Laberth was forced back onto the road, after hitting the wall, and flipped his car landing on the roof.
The Charlotte Fire Department and medics removed Laberth from the Acura to provide medical aid, but were unsuccessful and Laberth was pronounced dead at the scene, officials say.
Laberth was speeding, but wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and a toxicology test is underway to see if impairment is a contributing factor to the fatal crash, according to a news release.
Detectives say the investigation remains active, and anyone with more information is asked to call Detective Crum at 704-432-2169, extension 4, or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
