Deputies: Human Remains Found In Wooded Area Of Caldwell County

LENOIR, N.C. — Deputies with the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office say human remains were found in a wooded area on Cheraw Road near the entrance to the Caldwell County Landfill on November 29th.

Detectives say an individual walking in the woods found the remains, and called an investigator who responded to the scene.

Deputies say once they located the remains, they secured the site until the next day due to weather and lighting conditions.

Investigators say on Monday, November 30th they processed the scene and recovered the remains of the individual, with help from officials with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, and turned over the remains to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for identification and autopsy.

Investigators say they do not suspect foul play at this point in the investigation and the case remains active.
