North Carolina Health Officials Provide A COVID-19 Update

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Dr. Mandy Cohen, secretary of North Carolina’s Department of Health and Human Services, says coronavirus cases are rising at an alarming rate and lays out a vaccine plan for the weeks ahead.

Dr. Cohen says North Carolina has hit a new milestone with over 5,000 new positive cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours and an 11.4 positive percent rate (the highest positivity rate the state has seen).

Dr. Cohen urged citizens to stay home and avoid gathering during the holidays with anyone outside of their immediate household.

Dr. Cohen says the FDA and its advisory committee will review two vaccines this month, and once a vaccine is approved, the first doses will be given to high-risk health care workers at a limited number of hospitals.
