Rain Closes Workweek, Sunshine Starts Weekend

Northwesterly flow will spill into the area after the rain moves through, allowing for more snow in the High Country and sunshine in the Piedmont.

Happy Friday! After a streak of brutal cold over the past few days, slightly warmer temperatures return to the Carolinas as southwesterly winds set up shop. The warmth, unfortunately, comes with a price. A rainmaking system will sweep up into the WCCB Charlotte viewing area by Friday evening, making for what should be a wet close to the workweek. While the rain should clear out by midnight, it will be heavy at times, leaving anywhere between a half-inch to over an inch in some spots.

Cold air will waste no time returning to the area, either, as temperatures should return 5-10º below normal by the weekend, despite the return of abundant sunshine in the Piedmont. Northwesterly flow will sweep in behind the cold front as well, allowing for snow to return to the High Country. New snow could total 1-2″ in some spots through Saturday night. Expect highs near 50º for the weekend in the Piedmont and mid-to-upper 30s for the mountains.
