Police say they arrived at the scene around 5 p.m. to find patrons and mall employees running out of Carolina Place Mall, and after pinpointing where shots were heard, a search of the mall was conducted.

Pineville Police say with help from CMPD, the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, and N.C. Highway Patrol the entire mall was searched and no injuries were reported.

Detectives say a reunification post was made at the Sam’s Club parking lot for family members responding to the scene.

Staff with Pineville Fire, Charlotte Fire, and Mecklenburg EMS stood by at an established mobile command post outside in the parking lot of JC Penny to offer their help, according to a news release.

Police say the investigation remains ongoing as detectives look into mall security footage, and ask anyone with more information to call 704-889-TIPS.
