Sunshine, Frigid Cold Remain

Sunshine and a shifting of winds back to the southwest will allow for an eventual warm-up before the new year.

Merry Christmas! After a drenching in the Piedmont and a pleasantly white Christmas in the High Country, some of us south of the Metro woke up to some flurries this morning. While we should remain clear and sunny for most of the day today, we’re in for a frigid night. Lows across the board will settle into the teens and single-digits, setting us up for the coldest night in over a year. Wind chills could get as low as 15º below zero in our mountain communities. It won’t stay frozen forever, though, as winds shift back to the southwest by the weekend, allowing for an eventual warm-up closer to normal temperatures by the start of the final week of the year. Expect the next five days to remain dry.
