CMPD Investigating Third Homicide In Less Than 24 Hours After Woman Killed In Northeast Charlotte Shooting

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg detectives say 28-year-old Herbrea Keels has been identified as the gunshot victim in the fatal northeast Charlotte shooting.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department are investigating a homicide in northeast Charlotte Tuesday afternoon.

This is the third homicide in Charlotte in the last 24 hours.  One person died in a stabbing that happened around 9:30 p.m. Monday on Newell-Hickory Grove Road in northeast Charlotte.  Another stabbing in northwest Charlotte was reported around the same time on Ledson Court.  James Alexander Jackson, 53, was arrested and charged with voluntary manslaughter.  The victim in that case has been identified as 51-year-old John Paul Cousar.

In the most recent homicide, officers say they responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call at an apartment complex on Paces Oaks Boulevard near W.T. Harris Boulevard and University City Boulevard around 2 p.m. on December 29th.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound, according to a news release.  The woman was pronounced dead on the scene by first responders.

This is the 123rd homicide of the year in Charlotte, according to CMPD.
