Rain and storms to Ring in the New Year

It will be cloudy and cool today with highs only reaching the low 40s. A chance for a few sprinkles later this afternoon, but don’t bank on any widespread rain today – that will be coming tomorrow. A system out of the west will bring widespread rain and storms to the region tomorrow for your New Years’ Eve. This system will stall out bringing a warm, moist air mass to the region through the start of the New Year. Unsettled for New Year’s Day. A few strong storms possible during the afternoon. Keeping an eye on the potential for severe weather for areas south and east of Charlotte. Damaging wind gusts and isolated tornadoes will be the biggest threats. Areawide we could see the potential for localized flooding as 1.5-2″ of rainfall will be possible. Another last round of showers Saturday afternoon and evening. Drying out Sunday into early next week as temps fall to the mid to upper 50s.
