CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department have identified the pedestrian who was killed after being hit by a vehicle in east Charlotte Monday night.
Officers responded to the crash on Central Avenue near Eastway Drive around 7:20pm on January 4th.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer was traveling in the left lane of eastbound Central Avenue when it struck 64-year-old Rovella Doreen-Harris Evans, who was crossing Central Avenue, according to a news release. Police say Evans was not in a marked crosswalk at the time of the accident.
Police say the driver of the SUV was not impaired and they do not believe speed was a factor in the crash. No charges have been filed. Police say the investigation is ongoing and anyone who has information about the crash is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
