STATESVILLE, N.C. — Detectives with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office say a science teacher at North Iredell High School is under arrest after he exchanged sexual messages with a student.
Detectives say 23-year-old John Woody of Elkin, N.C. is charged with one felony count of indecent liberties with a student, and has been suspended with pay pending an investigation by the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.

Police say a report claiming a teacher was communicating inappropriately with a student was filed on January, 6th with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, after the School Resource Officer was made aware of the information and immediately notified investigators.
Woody is currently being held under a $25,000 bond while he awaits trail, according to a news release.
School officials say Woody has worked with the Iredell-Statesville School District since September of 2020.
