Wintry Mix Still On The Cards Through Friday

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Winter weather alerts are in place across the region this morning. Reports of up to 1/2″ accumulations for Morganton as of 2am. Snow will continue to fall across the mountains and foothills through the morning. The highest elevations could see more than 7″ of snow. For the foothills not out of the question for an accumulation of 3-6″ with 2-4″ down into the I-40 corridor. South of I-40 into I-85 is where things are still tricky. We will likely see that changeover happen, but depending on where that change zone takes place, we could even see some good bursts of snow south of I-40.

For the Charlotte Metro area – we’re still looking at more of a slushy accumulation with wet snow and sleet mixing in late this afternoon. less than 1″ accumulation expected around this area, but north Charlotte could be on the line to get a bit more of a straight snowfall which could bring a little more of an accumulation.

Overnight, will bring problems as temps dip below freezing. Even areas that see mainly rain could deal with icy spots overnight into Saturday morning. The weekend will be dry and cool with more wet weather and even a wintry mix further north early next week.
