Garth Brooks Performs “Amazing Grace” A Capella Style At Biden’s Inauguration

Garth Brooks performed “Amazing Grace” a capella at the inauguration ceremony for President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris on January 20th.

The country music star wore blue jeans and a black blazer as he belted out the beloved hymn “Amazing Grace,” originally written by former slave-trader-turned-abolitionist John Newton in the 1700’s.

Brooks captivated his audience as he approached the song’s final verse and asked viewers at-home and in-person to sing along.

Brooks said “I’m going to ask you to sing this last verse with me. Not just the people here, but the people at home, at work, as one, united.”

Earlier in the week, Brooks said First Lady Jill Biden personally invited him to perform at the ceremony.

“I’ve played for every president there is, since Carter, with the exception of Reagan. This is an honor for me to get to serve… and it’s one of the things that, if my family is around, no matter who the president-elect is, it’s an honor to be asked,” Brooks said.
