Gaston County Responds To Lawsuit Over Confederate Monument

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — Gaston County is responding to a lawsuit over a controversial confederate monument.

The county says it doesn’t have the authority to move it, despite voting to do so last year.

Commissioners voted to give the monument to the local Sons of Confederate Veterans. The group later decided not to take it and commissioners voted to leave it where it is – in front of the county courthouse.

Due to pending litigation county commissioners and the county attorney were unable to comment. Wednesday night, those calling for the statue’s removal are frustrated.
