Deputies: 2 Teens Die In A Rowan County Fatal Shooting

SALISBURY, N.C. — Detectives with the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office say 16-year-old D’andra Scott and 19-year-old Jatice Wactor died in a shooting on January 22nd after a failed financial transaction in Rowan County.

Deputies say Salisbury police officers were dispatched to the Emergency Room on Mocksville Avenue around 2:15 a.m. in reference to a gunshot victim that had been dropped off by a private car at the ER Emergency Entrance.

Detectives say the gunshot victim, Wactor, provided very few details as to what had occurred before passing away at the hospital, as he was being prepared to be flown to another location for further treatment.

Around 3:30 a.m., detectives say another Black man, thought to be in his teens, was found dead on Grove Street in Salisbury near the hospital.

Investigators say they were able to make connections between the two young Black men who had died, after determining the initial incident happened in a driveway on Woodleaf Road.

Detectives say the two men met each other in the driveway with the intention of completing a financial transaction, but after getting into the backseat of a vehicle together, a fight broke out, and the two began shooting at one another.

Both of the victims were taken by private vehicles to the local hospital, but Scott died before ever reaching the ER.

Police say the investigation remains active, and ask anyone with more information to call 1st Lieutenant Rodney Mahaley at 704-216-8711, 1st Sergeant Oliver Greene at 704-216-8686, or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5245.
