CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Officers with the Mount Holly Police Department say 81-year-old Joseph Laine of Lincolnton, N.C. is under arrest for his involvement in a fatal hit-and-run crash on January 22nd that killed a pedestrian.
Detectives say the pedestrian, 23-year-old Devin Valentine, died of his injuries received in the crash at Atrium Health in Charlotte on Tuesday, January 26th.
Laine is charged with second degree murder, a felony hit and run, and reckless driving, and he is being held under a $1 million dollar bond at the Gaston County Jail, according to a news release.
Police say Laine was identified as the suspect and arrested on Tuesday, January 26th, with the help of physical evidence and tips from the public.
Officials with the Mount Holly Police Department thank everyone who called in with information that lead to this arrest.
Police say the hit-and-run crash occurred near the intersection of West Charlotte Avenue and West Central Avenue in Mount Holly, N.C. between 10:30 p.m. and 11 p.m.
