Nothing Lasts Forever: Jeff Bezos Announces He’ll Step Down As Amazon CEO

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – He made Amazon a household name, but now Jeff Bezos is ready for a change. Bezos is giving up his role as CEO of the online retail giant to become its executive chair. The change will happen in the third quarter with the CEO of Amazon Web Services, Andy Jassy, taking over for Bezos. In a letter to employees, Bezos is quick to point out he isn’t retiring. He says he will still be involved with Amazon, but the new role will allow him to focus on other ventures like his space company and his newspaper, The Washington Post.

People responded with a endless outpour of witty comments and sarcasm. One Twitter user wrote, “Jeff Bezos actually stepped down as CEO of Amazon three days ago, Amazon just delivered the news late,” and, “In solidarity with Jeff Bezos, Alexa also resigned from Amazon today.”

Our question of the night: how many Amazon packages do you have delivered to your house each week?
