CMPD: Detectives Investigate A 3-Vehicle Collision With A CATS Bus In North Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Detectives say they are investigating a crash that occurred between two vehicles and a CATS bus in north Charlotte on Friday.

Officers say they responded to the crash on February 5th around 7 a.m. on West Sugar Creek Road, where they located a CATS Special Transportation Services bus, a Toyota 4-Runner, and a Nissan Quest, all involved in the collision.

Detectives say the driver of the Toyota, one passenger in the CATS bus, and all the occupants of the Nissan were taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives say the Toyota was traveling south on West Sugar Creek Road in the left lane in front of the CATS bus, when the Toyota driver activated their right turn signal and merged into the right lane and slowed.

As the CATS bus was passing, the Toyota veered to the left into the CATS bus path, and the front of the CATS bus hit the rear of the Toyota, according to a news release.

Detectives say the Toyota then crossed into the opposing lanes of traffic and collided head-on with the Nissan.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing.

Police say anyone with more information are asked to call Detective Oberer at 704-432-2169 or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
