Sogginess Stays, But Light at End of Tunnel

It's now been a week since we last saw more blue than gray in the skies, but some much-needed relief is finally on the way.

Happy Valentine’s Day! The Carolinas have been dealing with a miserable pattern for what seems like an eternity by now, but there is finally some light (literally) at the end of the tunnel. It won’t come by our Presidents’ Day Monday, though. Yet another rainmaking system originating from the Gulf will sweep into the WCCB Charlotte viewing area by Monday evening, which could bring heavy rain and even a thunderstorm or two. Fortunately, this system will take a lot of the moisture that’s been pooling over us for the past week along with it, setting us up with drier and brighter conditions by Tuesday afternoon. With the sunshine comes warmer temperatures, which could top out near 60° in the Piedmont for the second day of the workweek. Expect the sunshine to carry into Wednesday before we snap back to a cold and wet reality Thursday and Friday.

Tonight: Off-and-on showers and drizzle. Low: 38°. Wind: NE 5-10.

Monday Night: Rain, heavy at times. Some thunder possible. Low: 40°. Wind: S 5-10.
