CMPD: 4 Charged For Murder In East Charlotte Fatal Shooting

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Detectives say four individuals have been charged for the murder of 20-year-old Zion Garcia, who was fatally shot in August in east Charlotte.

Detectives say Nyla Burnett, 18, Jalen Meggett, 22, Jahmel Williams, 28, and an 18-year-old (minor at the time of the shooting) are all charged with murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon for their involvement in this case.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Detectives identified 20-year-old Zion Garcia as the victim who was fatally shot in east Charlotte on August 21st.

Original Story (2/21/2020):

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Investigators with CMPD say one person died in a shooting at an apartment complex in east Charlotte on August 21st.

Officers responded to the shooting around 5:21 p.m. on Firelight Lane where they attempted to catch suspects running from the scene but were unsuccessful, according to a news release.

Police say they responded to reports of a shooting on Albemarle Road minutes later to find a man with gunshot wounds outside a Valero Convenience Store.

Police say the victim was involved in the shooting on Firelight Lane that occurred earlier, and the man was taken to a local hospital where he died.
