Officials: 30 People Displaced After Massive South Charlotte Apartment Fire Caused By Juvenile ‘Playing With Fire’

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A massive two-alarm fire at a south Charlotte apartment complex has left multiple families without their home early Wednesday, according to firefighters.

The fire started before 1 a.m. at Stoney Point Apartments on Stoney Point Drive, off of Sharon Lakes Road. Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found the two-story condominiums showing heavy flames and smoke coming from the top of the building.

The Charlotte Fire Department has determined that the fire was caused by a ‘juvenile playing with fire.’ The fire caused an estimated total of $276,000 worth of damage and displaced 30 people.

According to reports, at least seven homes were gutted by the fire. No injuries were reported.

The Red Cross is assisting families who lost their home due to the fire.
