Rock Hill Police Identify Third Suspect In Double Homicide

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Detectives with the Rock Hill Police Department identify 17-year-old John’quavius Kelly as the third suspect involved in a double homicide that occurred on Byars Street on January 23rd.

Kelly, currently in custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice on unrelated charges, was served with warrants on February 19th at the Rock Hill Law Center for two counts of murder, criminal conspiracy, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and will be tried as an adult, according to a news release.

Detectives say the first two suspects, 18-year-old Jon’tarius Reid and 18-year-old Kelvin Barnette Jr., were taken into Rock Hill Police custody on February 16th and charged with two counts of murder each.

Officers say on January 23rd, 2021 around 7 p.m. they responded to a shooting at a home on Byars Street, and found two men shot outside the home suffering from life-threatening injuries.

Both victims, a 17-year-old and a 18-year-old, were taken to Piedmont Medical Center where they both later died from injuries sustained in the shooting.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing.
