Superman & Lois Stars’ Off-Screen Bond & Fresh Take on the Icons
Tyler Hoechlin & Bitsie Tulloch's real-life friendship translates in their roles as fan favorites, Clark Kent & Lois Lane.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Lois and Clark have long been a fan-favorite ‘ship,’ and for actors Elizabeth “Bitsie” Tulloch (Lois Lane) and Tyler Hoechlin (Clark Kent), it’s been easy portraying that bond. “I think we have a lot of fun,” says Tulloch. “Way too much fun,” chuckles Hoechlin.
Full of energy that only a super-human duo could muster for an early Zoom call, Hoechlin and Tulloch laugh with WCCB News Rising’s Derek James ahead of Tuesday’s 2-hour series premiere of ‘Superman & Lois.’
It’s certainly not the first time we’ve seen Clark Kent and Lois Lane on the TV screen. Older millennials grew up with Dean Cain and Terri Hatcher’s ‘Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman’ in the mid ’90s, both actors later making cameo appearances in roles on The CW’s ‘Supergirl.’
But Hoechlin and Tulloch didn’t draw from past characters to build their own. “We have a lot of respect for every actor who has played Superman and Lois Lane before us and, you know, we’re just kind of trying to do our own thing,” says Tulloch.
Fans who have grown with the characters may relate to Lois and Clark’s new role — as parents. “They’re now getting to reconnect with them in a way that’s completely fresh and new and is a part of their life now,” says Hoechlin. “I think it’s a chance to really come back to these characters in a whole new way and kids along the way can still be introduced to the mythology.”
