Discover 3-D Printing With The Catawba County Library

NEWTON, N.C. — Catawba County Library officials say they will be offering two upcoming classes for anyone interested in learning about 3-D printing and its technology.

Officials say the first class, Introduction to Tinkercad, will take place virtually over Zoom on Wednesday, March 3rd at 4 p.m.

Tinkercad is a form of computer assisted design (CAD) software that can be used to make simple sculptures in 3-D, and thanks to its free collection of digital tools, anyone can easily create 3-D designs by simply dragging and dropping shapes, according to a news release.

Library officials say during this introductory class participants will learn how to set up an account, complete online tutorials, produce designs, share and print designs, as well as learn to navigate other tools through CAD.

Officials say the second class, Tinkercad: Lucky Charm Designs, will take place virtually on Zoom on Wednesday, March 10th at 4 p.m.

During the second class, participants will get a general overview of CAD’s software capabilities before being shown how a series of pre-made designs were created using specific shapes and elements, according to a news release.

Officials say anyone who would like to print one of the charms, or something they’ve created, will be given information about forwarding files to the 3-D printer at the Newton Library at a cost.
