SLED: Detectives Investigate A Lancaster County Shooting, 4 Teenagers Under Arrest
LANCASTER, S.C. — Detectives with the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office say four teenagers are under arrest for their involvement in a shooting on Thursday night.
Deputies say they were dispatched to Community Lane in Lancaster at 8:30 p.m. on February 25th, after receiving reports of a shooting, and the first deputy at the scene saw three vehicles in the roadway and gunfire from the direction of the vehicles.
Detectives say this deputy blocked the roadway with his car and activated its blue lights before stepping out, when the lead vehicle accelerated towards the deputy.
Investigators say the deputy shot at the car, later determined to be a 2002 gold Honda Civic, as it drove away from the scene.
Other deputies arrived at the scene moments later and ordered four occupants in the second car, a red Ford sedan, to get out before they were detained.
Detectives say the third vehicle turned around and left the scene in the opposite direction of where the first car drove away, and the vehicle and its occupants have not been identified or located.
Officers say while searching for the suspects they discovered bullet holes in the front exterior of a home on Community Lane, which is believed to be the target of the shooting.
Police say the home was occupied by two adults and two children who were not injured in the shooting.
Detectives say a short time later they located three people believed to have been in the Honda that fled from the scene earlier and they were all detained, expect a fourth person who has not yet been located.
Investigators say the Honda was found disabled on Bailey Road and it looked to have been struck by gunfire.
Honda occupants, 19-year-old Deavion McDow and 17-year-old O’Syris Burnett both of Kershaw, were arrested and taken to the Lancaster County Detention Center, according to a news release.
Detectives say both McDow and Burnett are charged with attempted murder, and McDow faces an additional charge of possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
Police say the Ford occupants, 19-year-old George Green Jr. and 19-year-old Lance Hanley of Lancaster, were both charged for their involvement in this case.
Greene is charged for unlawful carrying of a pistol and possession of a stolen pistol, after officers say they found a stolen revolver inside the Ford.
Officers say Hanley is charged for simple possession of marijuana, after officers found a small amount of the suspected drug inside the car.
Hanley was released on a personal recognizance bond Friday morning, according to a news release.
Police say no one was injured in the shooting, and the deputy first at the scene has been placed on administrative leave.
“Last night we had yet another indiscriminate shooting into a residence in Lancaster County,” said Sheriff Barry Faile. “These incidents demonstrate a complete lack of regard for the lives of innocent citizens. Nothing is good about this incident except the fact that no one was injured. We encourage citizens to immediately report gunfire so we can get to the area quickly as we did last night and lock up the people doing the shooting.”
The investigation into this case remains active and ongoing.
Police say anyone with more information is asked to call the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office at 803-283-3388 or Midlands Crimestoppers at 888-274-6372.
