Gaston County Reports 1st Rabies Case Of 2021

GASTONIA, N.C. — Officials with Gaston County Police Animal Care and Enforcement say on Monday, March 1st they located a dead raccoon with rabies within reach of three dogs in the backyard of a home in Gastonia.

Officials say the three dogs living at the home on West Davidson Avenue are up to date on their required rabies vaccinations, and received a rabies booster shot on March 1st after their possible exposure.

Officials with Animal Care and Enforcement notified the immediate community of the positive rabies results, and verified rabies vaccinations for family animals in the area.

Animal Care officials stress the importance of making sure your pet’s vaccinations are up to date, to ensure the health and safety of animal owners and the community.
