CHARLOTTE, N.C. — After 54 years in business the iconic Charlotte restaurant Mr. K’s Soft Ice Cream in South End is officially closing.
Loyal customers lined up Friday, March 5th for their last chance to eat at the burger and ice cream joint.
The restaurant took to Facebook to say “We appreciate the many memories we’ve shared with all of you. Not many places in Charlotte make it 50+ years, but with your support, we’ve been able to join that elite crowd. We hope you’ve felt the love from our family to yours.”
Original Story (2/12/21):
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — An iconic burger joint in South End is up for sale. George Dizes says he is selling Mr. K’s on South Boulevard so he can retire. The family owned restaurant has been there since 1967.
Dizes is dealing with health issues and says working the restaurant is demanding. He says COVID has impacted his business but it’s not the reason he is selling.
“I want to thank all of our customers for their support over the years. I pray that they don’t think I’m abandoning them. However, I have to put my health and my children and my family ahead of everything else,” says Dizes.
He plans to keep running the restaurant until he finds a buyer.
