CMPD: 19-Year-Old Man Accused Of Kidnapping A Woman In Uptown Charlotte Arrested

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg detectives say 19-year-old Shamond Sellers is under arrest after being accused of kidnapping a woman from a parking garage in Uptown Charlotte early Thursday morning.

Sellers, a student at Johnson and Wales, is charged for attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, 1st degree kidnapping, and communicating threats for his involvement in the kidnapping, according to a news release

Officers say shortly before 1 a.m. on March 11th they responded to reports of a kidnapping at the Museum Tower Parking Garage near the intersection of West 1st Street and West Stonewall Street.

Detectives say a woman in her 20’s was walking to her car when a masked suspect approached her, held a knife to her throat, blindfolded her, and bound her hands behind her back with a rope, before she was able to free herself and call 911.

Officers say they found the suspect a few blocks away still in possession of the knife and rope he used to tie the victim up, thanks to assistance from the Real-Time Crime Center (RTCC).

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing.
