CHARLOTTE, NC (News Release) – DeMayo Law Offices, LLP has started the clock for local high school seniors who are looking for a chance to win a $2,500 scholarship for their college education by participating and being selected in the 19th annual Michael A. DeMayo Arrive Alive Scholarship Program.
The law firm has awarded over $620,000.00 dollars in total scholarships over the years and will be awarding an additional $37,500 in college scholarships this year to 15 high school seniors who reside and attend schools the following counties: In North Carolina, the counties include Mecklenburg, Gaston, Catawba, Union, Cabarrus, Cleveland, Lincoln, Rowan, Caldwell, Stanly, Iredell, Alexander, Burke, Robeson, Scotland, Richmond, Anson, and Cumberland. In South Carolina, the counties include York, Chester, Union, Cherokee, Lancaster, Chesterfield, Marlboro, and Dillon.
The scholarship program was started by attorney Michael A. DeMayo in 2003, the founder of his personal injury law firm. Initially, they awarded five $1,000 scholarships to Mecklenburg County high school seniors who wrote essays directed at other teenagers on how to reduce or eliminate underage drinking and driving which was a reoccurring fact pattern that Mr. DeMayo was seeing in his practice with predictable devastating outcomes.
Over the years, the scholarships grew to the current number of 15 winners across 23 counties who each receive a $2,500 scholarship. In addition to writing essays, high school students can express themselves in a variety of media formats, including billboards, brochures or social media venues. The objective is to impact the target audience with peer-to-peer messaging.
Applicants must be high school seniors who have applied for full-time enrollment at a four-year university or college and return the completed 2021 scholarship application packet to the law firm by April 12, 2021 deadline. Information and submission requirements can be obtained through your high school counseling office or www.demayolaw.com/scholarship-program/.
Winners will be selected based on the student’s presentation, as well as their application, SAT scores, transcripts, and letters of recommendation. Winners will be chosen by a selection committee and announced on June 18, 2021.
“Our law firm has consistently tried to reduce the countless injuries and deaths caused by underage drinking and driving and distracted driving,” DeMayo said. “We will continue to do our part in sharing information and promoting awareness in our community with programs like the Michael A DeMayo Arrive Alive Scholarships and other programs. We have awarded over $620,000.00 in college scholarships to deserving high school seniors in North and South Carolina since 2003.”
