The Humane Society of Charlotte Breaks Ground on Long-Awaited Historic Animal Resource Center

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (News Release) – The Humane Society of Charlotte (HSC) will officially break ground on the new HSC Animal Resource Center on Tuesday, March 16 at 11:30 am. The new location of the 43-year old organization will be on Berryhill Drive, just east of Wilkinson Blvd., and will expand HSC’s life-saving efforts and innovative programs.

Construction on the new animal resource center, led by Myers & Chapman and designed by RL Architecture, is set to begin directly after the groundbreaking and is expected to be completed in the Spring of 2022.

“This historic day has been a long time in the making and we couldn’t be more excited,” said Donna Stucker, Vice President of Philanthropy. β€œWe are so thankful to all of the community leaders and donors who have made this project possible.”

The new HSC Animal Resource Center will maintain focus on the organization’s current mission of improving the lives of pets & the people that love them while also expanding access to affordable pet health & wellness services, creating youth education programs, and building long-term relationships with the Charlotte community.

The new Animal Resource Center will feature expanded kennels and an indoor adoption counseling & interaction area, an expanded cat adoption center featuring a “cat-io” to provide outdoor enrichment for felines, an education court to better engage Charlotte youth and provide educational/recreational activities, an expanded clinic area, a cat cafe, a dog park, and more.

Fundraising for the Capital Campaign to reach the $15 million project goal is on-going and there are numerous ways to lend support. A limited number of naming opportunities for the new facility are still available and personalized brick pavers are available for purchase HERE.
