Salisbury Police Officer Arrested After Alleged Assault And Breaking & Entering

SALISBURY, N.C. — Deputies say an off-duty Salisbury police officer turned himself in Sunday after the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged him for breaking and entering, assault, and interfering with a 911 call.

Officer Malik Byrd is charged with one count each of breaking and entering, simple assault, assault of a female, and interfering with a 911 call for his involvement in an incident that occurred Saturday, March 13th, according to a news release.

Officials say Byrd has been placed on administrative leave with pay while detectives investigate this case.

Police say this recent arrest involving an officer is an isolated incident and does not reflect the character of men and women serving the Salisbury Police Department.
