Mecklenburg County Playing Catch Up With The State’s COVID-19 Vaccination Numbers

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Mecklenburg County health director says she’s concerned about COVID variants and is making sure vaccine distribution is equitable.

Mecklenburg County is playing catch up with the rest of North Carolina. The state percentage in terms of the number of people vaccinated is higher than the county.

Nearly 26 percent of North Carolinian’s have had at least one shot while only 15 percent of Mecklenburg County has been vaccinated. 3.4 million doses of the vaccine have been administered statewide and 56,000 of which were in Mecklenburg County.

County Health Director Gibbie Harris says there are a couple of reasons for that.
