CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg detectives say a 17-year-old juvenile has been charged for a series of car robberies committed in the past five months in the Charlotte area.
Detectives say the juvenile is charged with auto theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, two counts of breaking and entering a vehicle, two counts of misdemeanor larceny, and two counts of fraud for their involvement in the following crimes.
On October 8th, 2020, officers say they responded to a report of a stolen vehicle off of Rutledge Avenue, and just a few days later they located the vehicle and property from the vehicle in the possession of the juvenile, during a missing person’s recovery.
Police say the juvenile was taken into custody where they were interviewed and later released to a parent.
On January 5th, 2021, officers say they responded to a stolen vehicle report on Night Heron Lane, and after collecting evidence, they were able to identify the juvenile as the suspect.
On March 25th, 2021, officers say they responded to another stolen vehicle report on Emory Lane, and during the investigation, the victim was able to track the cell phone left inside the stolen vehicle.
Detectives say they found the stolen vehicle shortly after with the juvenile inside, and were able to detain them without incident.
Officers say during this incident they found additional information property belonging to a victim in anther case in possession of the juvenile.
Detectives say since being charged, the juvenile has been released to their mother.
The investigation into this case remains active and ongoing.
