Former Employee Arrested, Charged After Driving Through Concord Walmart
CONCORD, N.C. — A former Walmart employee has been arrested and charged after he drove a car into the Concord store early Friday, police say.
The Concord Police Department responded to the Walmart on Thunder Road around 6 a.m. after receiving a call that a car had driven through the front entrance of the store and had continued to drive inside.
When officers arrived at the scene, they located 32-year-old Lacy Coredell Gentry operating a Volkswagen Passat inside of the store causing ‘substantial damage and endangering others’, according to police.
Officers were eventually able to get Gentry to stop the vehicle and placed him into custody. During an initial investigation it was determined that he was a former employee of Walmart, but no other motive has been released.
According to police, no one inside the store, including any officers, were injured, however the store and merchandise suffered considerable damage.
Gentry has been charged with two felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, felony breaking and entering, two misdemeanor counts of assault with a deadly weapon and other charges relating to the damage of property, according to Concord police. Other warrants were served on Gentry that were outstanding prior to this incident. Gentry is currently in the Cabarrus County Jail under $100,000 bond.
