Local Boutique Moxie Mercantile Opens 3rd Location In Matthews, N.C.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The people behind the popular boutique Moxie Mercantile say they are excited to announce the opening of their third and biggest store location in downtown Matthews in May of 2021. The new 2,700 square foot store will be located on North Trade Street in Matthews, N.C., and will add to its’ two existing store locations in the Charlotte area in Plaza Midwood and Davidson.

Led by retail expert Michelle Castelloe, Moxie Mercantile is a vintage and modern community-centric shop with curated goods for sale. Castelloe says opening the first store in 2015 was a labor of love, and her goal with Moxie is to create a place that supports smaller makers and creators as well as the surrounding communities her shops call home.

Castelloe holds an extensive corporate background including being the Brand Director for Anthropologie, and over the past five years Castelloe says she has evolved her company to create even more of an impact within the small business community by offering philanthropy through different nonprofit and charity donations and promotions.

Castelloe says she also seeks out vendors that are fair-trade or who give back to the community through their own business models, and estimates Moxie has made $100,000 in impact to the local community since opening its first location.

The Matthews location was picked by Castelloe out of interest in becoming an integrated part of the downtown area and after many requests from clients.

“We need to preserve the character of these small communities, something that could easily be diminished by national chains. Local businesses are what make neighborhoods and towns cool and vibrant… We’re committed to protecting these areas and contributing to their value through Moxie,” says Castelloe.

While Moxie will continue to sell vintage pieces, art, and jewelry, the bigger space will allow the team to start offering more products including clothing.

Some brands that can be found at the new location include:

  • Farm Rio.
  • Young, Fabulous and Broke (YFB).
  • Brooklyn Candle.
  • Ophelia and Indigo.

In addition to the new retail space, there will be a 100 square foot studio space available for sublease by any up-and-coming vendor to jump start its business with applications online here.
