South Africa Wildfires Injure Firefighters and Damage Historic Landmark

Cape Town,  South Africa – A wildfire broke out Sunday in Table Mountain National Park, in Cape Town, South Africa. Hikers fled as flames moved quickly across the historic landmark. Several buildings were damaged or destroyed, including two on the University of Cape Town’s campus. At least two firefighters were injured. The high heat from the flames produced strong winds which caused the fire to spread quickly.

Officials said high temperatures and low relative humidity could keep firefighters battling the flames for at least three days.
