8-Month-Old Struck By Stray Bullet In Shelby
SHELBY, N.C. — An 8-month-old baby girl was struck by a stray bullet Tuesday night in Shelby, sending her to the hospital, according to police.
The Shelby Police Department say they were dispatched to Putnam Street around 10:15 p.m. in response to a report of a person being shot. When officers arrived at the scene they found the 8-month-old child with a gunshot wound.
The victim was transported to Atrium Health Cleveland for treatment and then flown to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte where she is currently receiving treatment for her injuries, police said.
An initial investigation indicates an altercation happened outside of the home where shots were fired. The baby was inside the residence at the time the shots were fired and was struck by a bullet that traveled through an outside wall of the home.
