CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Close to 50 firefighters battled a structure fire at a home in south Charlotte early Sunday morning.

Around 5:30 a.m. on April 25th, officials with Charlotte Fire Communications say they received a 911 call reporting the back deck of a home on Redfield Drive was on fire.

Firefighters say they arrived within six minutes to find a large two-story home 80 percent engulfed in flames.

Charlotte Fire Department Captain Dennis Gist said β€œApproximately 12 minutes after making that entry we had to evacuate all firefighters from the structure, due to the 2nd floor collapse.”

Fire officials say after the collapse, a 2nd Alarm was transmitted to bring in more firefighters to take on the flames.

Officials say all the occupants of the home escaped safely before firefighters arrived at the scene.

Firefighters say they worked for close to an hour to stop the flames, and get the fire under control.

The fire is currently under investigation by the Charlotte Fire Investigation Task Force.
