New Reaction To Old Clip Of Steve Harvey Saying Men & Women Cannot Be Friends
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Since the introduction of social media, many people have found that words from the past to come back to haunt them, mainly celebrities. In the latest case, comedian and talk show host Steve Harvey finds himself at the helm of controversy after someone re-posted a snippet from a 2010 interview Harvey did on CNN. In it, Harvey explains why he has no female friends and why men and women cannot be platonic friends.
Harvey says, “There’s some guy somewhere saying, ‘Yeah, we’re friends.’ No. that’s not true. He’s your friend only because you have made it absolutely clear that nothing else is happening except this friendship we have. We remain your friends in hopes that one day there will be a crack in the door, a chink in the armor, and trust and believe that guy that you think is just your buddy, he will slide in that crack the moment he gets that opportunity. Because we’re guys. 99.9% of us think that way.”
Tuesday, the old clip trended on Twitter. One person replied, “I hate how he presents men as these primitive beings who are incapable of intelligent thought or platonic relationships with the opposite gender.” Another said in part, “Playing Devil’s advocate: he is saying you have a very attractive female friend, it’s likely if there was an opportunity to sleep with her and she’s cool with it, most men will take it.”
Our question of the night: do you think men and women can be friends?
