Send Noodz: Silverlake Ramen

Grab some noodles with the family and enjoy this tucked away patio spot in the heart of South End.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The South End neighborhood has become the hot spot for crave-worthy dishes in the Charlotte area and nothing tops that must-eat list quite like a fresh bowl of ramen.

Opened in September, 2020, Silverlake Ramen has quickly become a welcome addition to a ramen-obsessed Charlotte food scene.  Its colorful, mural emblazoned facade is tucked in the building formerly occupied by Owen’s Bagels at 2041 South Boulevard in The Avenues at Atherton.  Its sizable patio spot is safely fenced in and a great place to slurp some noodles and watch the passersby.

Developed in Los Angeles by two Japanese Chefs, Silverlake Ramen prides itself on fresh ingredients and house made broth.

The most popular dish on the menu?  “The Blaze” ramen, says local owner, Helen Xia.  It brings the heat, but can choose your own spicy level.  “And people here all love the Chicken Karaage Bowl,” which features spicy, Japanese style fried chicken, teriyaki sauce, spicy aioli, green onion and red ginger over rice.

Not a noodle fan?  Go gyoza.  Grilled or fried, their juicy pork dumplings are handmade daily.  Or the Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna, Xia’s personal favorite.

Silverlake’s menu offers multiple vegetarian options plant-based diners including an Impossible Bun, featuring panko fried Impossible plant meat, shredded cabbage and katsu sauce.

And don’t sleep on the tropical cocktails.  Their Mango Tango is easily their most popular cocktail — but don’t ask for the recipe.  Laughs Xia, “it’s secret!”
